  • Please note the new scholarship opportunity, Taylor Fisher Memorial Scholarship, which is available to Seniors with a 3.0 GPA who have applied and been accepted to a 2-yr or 4yr college. Along with this application, an essay is required. Please see gorebs.org or the Guidance Office for more details and to get a copy of this scholarship application. 

  • Scholarship Highlight: The WMHS : LSU Alumni Scholarship is available for WMHS students only. That means that our WMHS Seniors will not be competing with other high school seniors for this scholarship! Any WMHS Senior who has applied and been accepted to LSU, and who also has a minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.5 and minimum Composite ACT Score of 25, is encouraged to apply. This application will also require a personal essay and two teachers' letters of recommendation. Up to 2 Applicants may be chosen to receive this generous scholarship that provides $1,250 per year for up to 4 years (Total: $5,000, if student qualifies for all 4 years). This scholarship is coming due soon! All applications need to be received in the WMHS Guidance Office by 3:00 PM on Friday, April 12th. Please see the Guidance Office or gorebs.org to grab your copy of the application. 

  • Guidance has received a new scholarship opportunity, The Jubilee Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship opportunity is available for African American males or females that have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a minimum ACT Composite Score of 18. All Applicants will need to show proof of admission into a 4-yr public/private university, along with a 250-word autobiography and one letter of recommendation. The deadline for this scholarship is April 19th. For more information about the requirements and to grab a copy of this application, you may visit gorebs.org or come by the Guidance Office.

  • Attention Juniors, If you wish to participate in the ring ceremony you will need to complete the Google form indicating such.  There are posters around campus with a QR code to scan and Junior English teachers have shared the Google form link in their Google Classrooms.   The ring ceremony will be held in the Auditorium on April 28th at 2pm.

Sports News: 

  • Baseball continued to roll yesterday against ASH. They won 11-0, led offensively by John Pearson going 2 for 3 with a homer and 5 RBIs. Bradyn Cupit picked up the win on the mound allowing one hit and adding 11 strikeouts over 5 complete innings. They play today vs Ash at home, and tomorrow vs Ash at Menard

  • Softball rounded out their district play yesterday with a 10-7 victory over ruston! After starting 1 and 3 in district play, these ladies rallied and ended with a six and four record in district. They were led offensively by Macy Nordstrom going 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Parker Burford also added 4 RBIs. Macy also picked up the win with 8 strikeouts over seven innings. Today, they will travel to North Desoto to take on the Nationally Ranked Griffins. Next Tuesday they will be at home vs Nationally Ranked Sterlington. We need a huge student section for that game! Let’s pack the house!

  • To any girls interested in playing soccer for the Lady Rebels next season, tryouts are fast approaching! You will need to see Coach Barron in 2201 to sign up and receive a tryout packet. Don’t wait! Go see him as soon as possible!

  • Tryouts for girls powerlifting will be Thursday, April 25 at 3:45 PM in the old gym. You must have a current physical. Attire will be tennis shoes, athletic shorts, and a t-shirt, not tanks or cut off shirts. See Coach Sims in the old gym for any questions!

  • Track competed in their home meet yesterday. On the boys side, they took second overall as a team with 101 points scored. Our 4x800 team took 2nd overall. Landon Spears took first place in the mile and the 2 mile running 4 minutes and 42 seconds and 9 minutes 53 seconds. Tytan Johnson took first in the 800m run. Our 4x400 team with Remy Moore, Tytan Johnson, Mason Wright, and James Cambel took silver. Trez Davis took silver in triple jump. Deshun Thompson took silver in high jump. Both of our Javelin throwers set personal records yesterday. Jaxson Talley took silver with a throw of 200 feet, six inches. Colton Brasher took bronze with 180 feet, two inches. Gabriella Glover took silver in the 100m dash and the 200m dash. De’siree Boyett took bronze in the mile run and gold in the 2 mile run. Anisten Dunn took silver in the 2 mile. Avery Miletello took bronze in the 300m hurdles. Charlotte Switzer took silver in the 400m dash, gold in the long jump, and silver in the high jump. This performance gave her a share of Meet MVP. They will be back in action at the Mac’s Fresh Market relays next Thursday at West Ouachita. 

  • Tennis hosted OCS yesterday. Our girls won 7 out of 9 matches and our boys won 6 out of 7 matches. Next Tuesday they will be at Ruston for their next match.

Club and Organization News:

  • Important Announcement for Prom! Everyone attending prom must bring a photo ID. This can be LA wallet, student ID, or Driver's License. 

  • The date for Powder Puff Football has been changed to Monday, April 29th. See Mrs. Nix or Mrs. Jones for any questions. 

  • The spring production of the Drama Department is quickly approaching. The Little Mermaid will take the stage starting April 17th and running one show a day until the 21st. Tickets will be available soon!

  • The portal for ordering yearbooks closes today. There will be no extensions offered. To order a yearbook go to balfour.com, choose West Monroe High School and then choose yearbook.
